Symphonic Concert “Dimensions of Music Form”
The MUSIC.DESIGN.FORM festival will close with the symphonic concert "Dimensions of Music Form", which consists of three pieces:
● “Heart” Op.27 No.5
● “The Sound of Szczecin”
● “A Heroine for our time – artist Julia Pastrana”
“The Sound of Szczecin”
This composition is the result of an exceptional project carried out on 17th and 18th April 2018 in Szczecin. The city streets were cruised by specially marked cars equipped with devices collecting geodata from the streets, which were later transformed into binary codes, and these - into music codes. The data constituting the basis for the creation of the piece "The Sound of Szczecin" was collected by well-known residents of Szczecin, including musicians, actors, journalists and representatives of cultural institutions. They included: Kamil Kuskowski (painter, visual artist, Dean of the Department of Painting and New Media, head of the Audiovisual and Performative Department at the Academy of Art in Szczecin), Jarosław Jaz (journalist, editor), Dorota Serwa (managing director of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin), Rafał Hajdukiewicz (actor, Pleciuga Puppet Theater), Eddy Volcano (the longest acting DJ from Szczecin), as well as many other people who have made a huge contribution to the cultural development of Szczecin.
The piece will be performed for the first time during the final of the MUSIC.DESIGN.FORM festival by the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and the synth-pop group Apparatjik. It will be a unique opportunity to hear how Szczecin sounds.

“A Heroine for our time – artist Julia Pastrana”
“A Heroine for our time – artist Julia Pastrana” is the world premiere of the orchestral version of the song "Heroine of our time", based on musical material for an upcoming opera detailing the tragic life of Mexican circus artist Julia Pastrana. The story of a peculiar woman with a beard, her fate and loneliness, will be told by music and light images created jointly by Apparatjik, Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, as well as Concha Buika - a Spanish vocalist and composer.
Apparatjik is a Scandinavian band known for its avant-garde approach to synth-pop sound. Currently, it is made up of: Magne Furuholmen, member and founder of the band "A-ha" (guitarist and keyboardist), Jonas Bjerre from the Danish ensemble "Mew" (vocalist and guitarist) and Martin Terefe (drummer and producer). The ensemble members share not only a unique sound, but also the way of approaching the possibilities of artistic expression i.a. through visual arts. There will be an occasion to see it through your own eyes during this unique concert-performance.
