Listening Academy. A Guide to Concerts

Behind every note lies a story.

What makes certain pieces of music move listeners around the world, generation after generation? Under what circumstances were they composed, and what stories lie behind them? How can we gain a deeper understanding of the music we are about to hear on stage?



We invite you to introductory lectures preceding selected symphonic concerts. We will look at the repertoire from a new perspective, learn more about the composers, discover the inspirations behind their works, as well as fascinating facts, anecdotes and historical contexts that will allow you to experience the concert even more fully.

The lectures begin at 18:00, last approximately 30 minutes and take place before selected symphonic concerts. Admission is free of charge for holders of a ticket to the concert taking place immediately after the lecture.

We welcome both those who are just beginning their journey into classical music and experienced music lovers wishing to broaden their knowledge and rediscover familiar works.

The lectures are given by Dr Jakub Stefek, a Doctor of Arts and Doctor of Economics, Head of the Centre for Revived Music in Szczecin and organist at the Pestalozzistraße Synagogue in Berlin. He is a graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. Since 2017, he has been a lecturer at the Academy of Art in Szczecin. Since 2018, he has headed the Szczecin festival initially known as the Jewish Music Days and now held as the Revived Music Festival. In his artistic and academic work, he focuses on discovering, researching and promoting forgotten musical heritage. He has been collaborating with the Szczecin Philharmonic in various capacities since 2019.
