Friday evening with Dvořák Serenades dedicated to the memory of Jacek Kraszewski

Antonín Dvořák is one the very few composers who were extremely successful during their lives, and from the very begining of his career the circumstances were really favorable for him. ‘ It is very funny : to meet Dvořák. Gently speaking, he is quite unique, but a very friendly as well.’ -wrote Edvard Grieg about him. And the same we can tell about the programme of the nearest concert!

At the very beginning of his career, among many other works, Antonín Dvořák composed two serenades, which will be played during the concert on our streaming platform on 22nd January. ‘ I have composed too much’ the composer wrote once in his letter to Sibelius. Indeed, he must have been in such an opinion, because during that period he used to burn most of his works immediately after he wrote them. However, he was rather satisfied with the serenades as he did not destroy them but kept them. He even once said : ‘To have a wonderful mind is nothing special. The idea comes up automatically and if it is good and wonderful, the human cannot assign himself as the author of it. On the other hand, to take a good idea and make something outstanding of it, this is the most difficult thing to do, this is a real art.!’

This Friday 22nd January at 7 p.m we will have a chance to listen to the Serenade for wind instruments op. 44, B 77 and Serenade E-dur op. 22, B52.
