The Contemporary Creators: Till Janczukowicz

NEWS | 21-06-2021
The art world turned 180 °. In Music. Multimedia. Management. we are looking for interesting examples of how artists and institutions can function in a new hybrid model that has been successfully accelerated by the pandemic. On 23rd June at 8:00 p.m. we would like to invite you to watch a documentary about one of the world's most famous music managers, Till Janczukowicz. The premiere will take place on the Philharmonic's Facebook and YouTube channels
A few weeks ago, we went to Berlin to meet Till Janczukowicz, a manager, music producer and founder of IDAGIO – the first streaming site dedicated to classical music. Now, the project is transforming into a creative platform, a virtual campus, which is to enable the artist to meet the audience directly. Till talks about the producer's role as a catalyst that helps turn the artist's boldest vision into reality. He also tries to answer the question: what is possible when, with the help of new technologies, you open the door to the creative process and invite your audience behind the scenes?

This is the second film in the Contemporary Creators series as the part of the international project Music. Multimedia. Management., in which the outstanding artists and specialists from the art world discuss the key issues that have a measurable impact on the industry and functioning in the cultural sector.

Our guests reveal where they find inspiration and motivation to act and develop, what communication and audience development looks like from the artist's perspective, and what emotions accompany them today in the era of changes caused not only by pandemic, but other reasons as well.

Till Janczukowicz

The hero of our Wednesday premiere has over 30 years of experience as an artistic manager, producer and concert promoter. He began his career as a pianist and journalist, writing reviews and interviewing artists who intrigued him: Alfred Brendel, Murray Perahia, Światosław Richter, Krystian Zimerman and many others. For three years he was conducting Master Classes at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. Together with Bob Brookmeyer, they founded the New Arts Orchestra, an international youth big band that includes soloists such as Clark Terry, Gerry Mulligan and Randy Brecker.

In 2000, he founded the European office of Columbia Artists Management Inc., leading it until 2011 as a managing partner. His personal clients were such conductors as: Christian Thielemann, Seiji Ozawa, André Previn, Jukka-Pekka Saraste and Juraj Valcuha, as well as pianists Ivo Pogorelich and Arcadi Volodos. He has organized concert tours for orchestras such as the Royal Conertgebouw, Paris Opera Orchestra, Philharmonia and Vienna State Opera Orchestra, as well as three European tours of The Metropolitan Opera and other collaborations with leading international orchestras and performing arts institutions.

In 2008, he created the Abu Dhabi Classics for the United Arab Emirates Government, the series of performing arts combining culture, education and tourism. He has arranged UAE debuts for the New York, Berlin and Vienna Philharmonics, the Bayreuth Festival, Daniel Barenboim, Sir Simon Rattle, Zubin Mehta, Cecilia Bartoli, Yo-Yo Ma, Anne-Sophie Mutter and actors Ben Kingsley and Jeremy Irons. The number of participating schools and colleges has grown from four in the first season to over forty in the third season of its activity.

In 2014, Till founded IDAGIO, the first audio streaming service for classical music, as an answer to the constant question: "How can we use technology to sustain and enliven classical music?" Composed of a passionate, multidisciplinary team in Berlin, Vienna and New York, IDAGIO currently supports artists and performing arts institutions in developing viable online strategies based on their expertise in design, technology and content.
