Maciej Sikała, born in 1961 in Gdańsk. Jazz musician, saxophonist, composer, lecturer of saxophone class in the jazz department at the Academies of Music in Gdańsk and Bydgoszcz – here as a PhD habil. professor of the university. He collaborated, giving concerts or recordings, with the leading Polish jazz scene, including Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Tomasz Szukalski, Leszek Możdżer, Piotr Wojtasik, Jarosław Śmietana, Leszek Kułakowski, Wojciech Karolak and with bands such as: Miłość, L. Możdżer's Sextet, Kuba Stankiewicz Quartet, Qyavy and with musicians from abroad such as: Lester Bowie, David Liebman, Ronnie Burrage, Billy Harper, Wayne Dockerey, John Betsch, Kenny Wheeler, Eddie Henderson, Tim Haggans, David Kikoski.
He has recorded over 70 albums, including six of his own, two of which were nominated for the "Fryderyki" award.
For several years, he has been conducting classes at jazz workshops in Chodzież, Puławy and Nysa. He has given concerts in Germany, Russia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Belarus, Lithuania, France, Sweden, Moldova, Mexico, Romania, Canada, Israel, Austria, Ukraine, Italy, Belgium, India, England, and Italy.
In the Jazz Forum "Jazz Top" survey, he was ranked first in the tenor saxophone category in 1995-2005, 2010 and 2012-2023, as well as in the soprano saxophone category in 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2019.
