Atom String Quartet has earned a reputation as a leading Polish jazz ensemble and an exceptional string quartet. Their music is extraordinarily intriguing because it combines string quartet skills with improvisation.
The ensemble was founded in 2010 in Warsaw. Since winning the Grand Prix at the XIII Bielska Zadymka Jazz Festival in 2011, it has regularly performed at the most important music festivals worldwide. The group's lineup includes Dawid Lubowicz, Mateusz Smoczyński, Michał Zaborski, and Krzysztof Lenczowski.
The artists have prepared pieces by Mieczysław Karłowicz, who, at a young age, wrote 29 songs for voice and piano set to the poems of Young Poland poets. Of these works, 22 have survived, and 11 are featured on the album. Atom String Quartet decided to give them new, surprising jazz arrangements and recorded them together with musicians from the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in Szczecin.
It is a unique combination of classical vocal music with jazz arrangements.
