Audition for the double bass (tutti)

Przemysław Neumann Director of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin (PL) announces audition for the DOUBLE BASS (tutti).

Required documents should be e-mailed until 06-09-2026 to sekretariat@filharmonia.szczecin.pl, with the note "Audition – HDOUBLE BASS".

Audition will take place on 29-09-2026, 23:59 at Szczecin Philharmonic chamber hall. Szczecin Philharmonic will provide an accompanist for auditions.

Type of employment


Full-time employment contract.

The basic gross salary for this position is PLN 6,800 per month. Musicians' work is calculated using a points-based system, with a monthly standard workload of 24 points (for example, a symphonic concert equals 12 points). Each point exceeding the monthly standard results in an additional payment equivalent to 1% of the basic salary.

Audition process


ROUND I – Video Recording and Application Documents
Application deadline: 6 September 2026.

Applicants are required to submit a single, unedited video recording including:
  • the first movement with cadenza of either:
    • K. Dittersdorf – Double Bass Concerto, or
    • J. B. Vanhal – Double Bass Concerto (solo tuning required), and
  • W. A. Mozart – Symphony No. 40, Movement I (required excerpt as indicated in the provided sheet music).

The concerto may be performed with piano accompaniment. The recording must consist of a single, continuous take without any editing, cuts or post-production. It should be uploaded to a video-sharing platform (e.g. YouTube or Vimeo) or made available via a cloud storage service (e.g. Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive). Applicants should include the link in their application.

ROUND II – Live Audition
29 September 2026, Chamber Hall, Szczecin Philharmonic

Required repertoire:
  • L. van Beethoven – Symphony No. 5, Movement III
  • L. van Beethoven – Symphony No. 9, Recitative from Movement IV
  • R. Strauss – Ein Heldenleben
  • Sight-reading excerpt

Additional information

  • Szczecin Philharmonic will provide an accompanist for auditions.
  • After completing the recruitment process and selecting the best candidate, a contract will be concluded.

Qualifications required and experience

  • A diploma of higher education, at least a bachelor's degree (specialization: instrumental performance – double bass).
  • Professional orchestral experience and familiarity with the symphonic repertoire are highly desirable.
