LISTEN TO THE ALBUM „MIECZYSŁAW KARŁOWICZ – PIEŚNI”
The Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra was conducted by one of the most talented Scandinavian conductors –
Rune Bergmann. This versatile and energetic conductor is also the Artistic Director of the Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra and this is the third album he has recorded with the band.
The orchestra on the album is accompanied by the world-famous soloist and the first lady of the Polish opera stage –
Małgorzata Walewska. The interpretation of the artist, endowed with a poignant dramatic mezzo-soprano, breathed freshness and lightness into Karłowicz's works, maintaining the characteristic melancholy atmosphere of Young Poland period at the same time.
Piotr Moss is responsible for the orchestrations of seventeen of the twenty-two pieces that have survived to this day. The composer perfectly conveyed the spirit of the era and the compositional style of Karłowicz, arranging works, which were originally written for voice and piano, especially for the album’s needs.
Songs to poems written by Polish poets
Mieczysław Karłowicz, the composer of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, went down in history of music mainly as the creator of orchestral works, especially symphonic poems. At the age of about 20, a bit on the verge of "school" creativity, the young artist also wrote songs. During one year (from the end of 1895 to the end of 1896),almost all of the 29 songs were written -22 of them have survived to this day. In these very personal artistic statements, the researchers of Karłowicz's work look for a preview of the composer’s later style an the characteristic longing which permeates his works.
