MMM- the first stage of the program has ended

At the turn of May and June the first part of the MMM training program took part. For five weeks, the participants of six thematic paths (modules) met regularly in real-time classes run by tutors from around the world.
Each module highlighted the role of consciousness and knowledge, the specificity of each cell's work in the creative process and the production of the events.

There were 35 webinars, where the experts from different time zones were combed together, from the west coast of the United States to Iceland, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, France, Germany, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Vietnam and Taiwan.

Over the course of more than 70 hours of online meetings, many interesting questions have been raised about the challenges faced by cultural managers in terms of effective management, teamwork and conscious inclusion of the audience in the creation of events

The MUSIC EDUCATION module was devoted to exemplary international practices in the field of instrument learning and group work, hearing training and audience development from an early age to senior age. Annika Kukkonen of the Helsinki Philharmonic and Tuul Jukola Nuorteva of the Finnish National Opera, Prof. Julian Lloyd-Webber (UK) and Ron Davis (Sweden) talked about their projects and experiences.

The ARTIST MANAGEMENT module addressed the issues of communication on the line of the artist – manager – artistic director of the institution, the relationship of managers with artistic directors of music festivals and concert halls, building long-term contacts, the peculiarities of the music market in different parts of the world (special attention was paid to the phenomenon of countries where classical music concerts attract mainly young audiences), hybridization of the industry and the profession of music manager itself, contracting, negotiation and copyright problems. In this module, the expert circle was created by Grzegorz Kotow, Lydia Kuo (Director, National Symphony Orchestra, Taiwan), Florian Riem (Secretary General of the World Federation of International Music Competitions), Oliver Wille (Artistic Director, Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker, Chairman of the Jury – German Music Competition), Stanisław Suchora, Monika Pasiecznik, Sebastian Jóźwiak (publisher, manager, music producer), Martin Malm – expert in negotiating international agreements.

The TEAM MANAGEMENT module was devoted to team energy management, overwork and burnout problems, communication issues (from program to concert, composition and rehearsal organization), challenges faced by young conductors working with international orchestras, crisis management and how institutions deal with pandemic challenges. Xoan Castineira (J.S. Bach St. Gallen Foundation), Lilianna Krych, Rune Bergmann and Maria Sydor (Szczecin Philharmonic), Maciej Żółtowski (Oneont, NY) and Łukasz Borowicz (Poznań Philharmonic) were listened carefully in this module.

The introduction to the ART CURATION module was a lecture by Stanisław Ruksha on the role of curator and curatorial experience. The theme was continued by Los Angeles art critic Andrew Berardini. Knowledge and experiences were shared by Marianna Dobkowska (CSW in Warsaw), Anna Kobierska, Anna Marjankowska, Bartek Buczek, Nguyen Quốc Thành.

The SOUND module began with a case study: Prof. Joanna Napieralska designed a sound inspired by a curly staircase in the lobby of the Szczecin Philharmonic. In subsequent webinars the experts discussed sound design issues in sound system (Dr. Jarosław Regulski), work planning and configuration of the mixer for the implementation of live concert and recording (Erik Valderhaug), the sound system of computer-aided music (Dr. Wojciech Błażejczyk), microphoneization techniques (prof. Krzysztof Kuraszkiewicz), complexity of the structure of phonographic forms (Michał Shostakowski), sound and VR, mastering music recording for streaming on the Internet (Przemysław Danowski), sound issues in interactive installations and archiving (Dorota Błaszczak).


The artistic aspects of light directing, the director's inspirations and references to light, building emotionality and drama with light, negotiating conditions and collaborating with the artistic team, the use of new technologies and the impact of the pandemic on accelerated technological development and the emergence of new hybrid forms of events are topics covered within the LIGHT & MULTIMEDIA module. It was attended by directors of lights: Felice Ross, Ellen Ruge, Katarzyna Łuszczyk. Ewa Krasucka focused on the problem of recording and perpetuating a stage event in the age of streaming. Paweł 'Spider' Pająk talked about creating a light setting of concerts, as well as the role of a creative director and creative producer in the stages of conception, design, production and implementation of events.

The project, co-financed by the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport, provides the opportunity to co-create artistic events, including: Music.Design.Form Festival, International Lutoslawski Youth Orchestra, Fjord Cadenza Festival and the exhibition program of the Level 4 Gallery.
