On August 12th we would like to invite you for the jazz music concert performed by Szczecin Philharmonic Big Band! The first concert with the audience after the summer break! The music of the brightest stars of jazz and pop! Beautiful! Free! Simply, all that jazz! What’s in the program? Buddy Rich, George Gershwin, Jimmy McHugh, Duke Ellington, George Shearing, Ben Bernie, Joseph Kosma, Henry Mancini, Charlie Barnet, Cole Porter, Freddie Hubbard, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Joe Zawinul.

People today are so nervous that they go to psychologists. And it is better to come to a concert of classical or jazz music. There you will get peace and positive emotions."

More than beautiful and very much liked compositions will be performed by Szczecin Philharmonic Band. We will hear such standards like: Groovin' Hard, Strike up the band, On the sunny side of the street, Caravan, Big swing face, Lullaby of Birdland, Sweet Georgia Brown, Autumn Leaves, Moon River, Skyliner, Night in Tunisia, Love for sale, Gibraltar, Blackbird, Birdland.
Szczecin Philharmonic Big Band was formed in autumn 2017 on the initiative of Igor Puszkar, the bass trombonist of the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in Szczecin. It is composed of musicians of this Orchestra and leading instrumentalists from the Szczecin and Poznań music community. The band performs a variety of jazz and entertainment music.
Jazz – music, soul and "America's greatest treasure" was born at the beginning of the 20th century. The clues lead to New Orleans, Storyville -red light district and Congo Square (Place des Nègres). In the cultural crucible that was the South, a collective improvisation was created, consisting of of black slaves working in cotton fields (plantation songs, field hollers, call and response), their prayers (negro spirituals, religious ballads) inspired by the Protestant anthem, brass-band marches derived from German tradition, French staff (quadrilles), Creole dances (bidgin bèlè, biguine), social songs of outcasts, or hard workers construction of roads (work songs). This is how "all this jazz" was born. In the following decades, it was shaped by both of the world wars, the crazy years of prohibition, the great economic crisis, protests against racial segregation and the fight for civil rights.
Songs expressing sadness, hopeless fulcries, hot faith, dreams, love, rebellion, anguish and, above all, an all-encompassing longing for freedom were born. Because jazz has always been one of the most important musical narratives about the African-American journey to freedom. Because in its deepest sense, jazz is a polyphonic celebration of freedom.
