Sylwia Fabiańczyk-Makuch

SYLWIA FABIAŃCZYK-MAKUCH is a recognizable figure in the city, region and country. Thanks to her wide-ranging artistic activity, charisma, passion, extraordinary activity, cooperation with the biggest stars of the Polish music scene (Dawid Podsiadło, Krzysztof Zalewski, Zbigniew Preisner, Andrea Bocelli, Grzegorz Turnau, Tomasz Organek and many more) and countless media appearances, she has created a modern, original image of a conductor, breaking the classic stereotype of perceiving choral music.

Sylwia Fabiańczyk-Makuch is a professor at the Academy of Art in Szczecin, conductor and founder of the Choir of the Maritime University of Szczecin (until recently the Choir of the Maritime Academy in Szczecin), with which she has been giving concerts since 2003, passionately promoting choral art and winning countless awards in Poland and abroad. Founder and artistic director of the Pomerania Singers vocal ensemble, director of the Academic Culture Center of the Maritime University of Szczecin, artistic director and originator of the original project Wspólne Brzmienia (Common Sounds), artistic director of the Polish Association of Choirs and Orchestras (Szczecin branch), juror of choral reviews.

She is the winner of numerous individual awards for the best conductor at choral festivals, including: Gorizia (Italy, 2023), Barczewo (2022), Lublin (2017), Legnica (2017), Bratislava (2016), Prague (2014), Głogów (2012), Chełmno (2010). In 2021, at the World Choir Festival in Hong Kong, she won a diploma for one of the 10 best conductors out of over 200 participants from around the world.

Sylwia Fabiańczyk-Makuch is a graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music. I. J. Paderewski in Poznań (branch in Szczecin). She obtained her diploma in choral conducting under the supervision of prof. Jan Szyrocki with a very good grade and distinction. She completed the Postgraduate Choirmaster Studies at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. She received a doctorate in conducting in September 2011 at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She obtained a postdoctoral degree in September 2017 at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk.

She was awarded, among others:

• Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for outstanding contribution to the development and popularization of Polish choral music, in particular maritime music, and for charity work (2023),
• West Pomeranian Wings of Education award (2023),
• Pro Arte award of the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship for outstanding achievements in the field of artistic creation, promotion and protection of culture (2022),
• Honorary Medal of the Maritime Academy in Szczecin (2022),
• Magnolie Biznesu award in the category For Love of Szczecin (2021),
• Silver Cross of Merit (2019),
• Bronze Medal for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis (2019),
• title of Ambassador of Szczecin (2019),
• West Pomeranian Nobel Prize in the field of artistic sciences (2017),
• Medal of the National Education Commission for special contribution to education and upbringing (2015),
• Badge of Honour for Merit to Polish Culture (2013),
