Paweł Tomaszewski - COINCIDENCE

The album Coincidence features two exceptional jazz compositions and interpretations, filled with unique melodies, harmonies, and rhythms, created especially for the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin.

The first composition, titled Three Crowns, is a suite for symphony orchestra, jazz sextet, and solo voice. Paweł Tomaszewski composed the music and wrote the lyrics for this piece, inspired by the legend of Saint Kinga.

The central theme of the second piece, the jazz suite Coincidence, is drawn from Wojciech Kilar's music for Krzysztof Kieślowski's film of the same name. This composition is a tribute to Polish film production and the story told by Kieślowski. Much like the narrative of the film, the suite is a musical depiction of humanity's emotional states and existential dilemmas.

Paweł Tomaszewski is a pianist, composer, arranger, music producer, professor at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, and since 2019, the dean of the Faculty of Jazz and Popular Music. In the 2021/2022 artistic season, Paweł Tomaszewski was an artist-in-residence at the Philharmonic. He captivated all music lovers, and the culmination of his year-long residency is the album Coincidence, which premiered on 30 April 2023.

The project features the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Szymon Bywalec. Paweł Tomaszewski also invited leading jazz musicians to collaborate, including Mark Lettieri on electric guitar, Bernard Maseli on marimba, Wojciech Myrczek on vocals, Jerzy Małek on trumpet, Marek Podkowa on saxophone, Andrzej Święs on double bass, and Marcin Jahr on drums.

The album Coincidence by Paweł Tomaszewski is an exceptional work that will delight jazz and symphonic music fans.
