Lullabies for the World

The artists experiment with various vocal techniques, create their own instruments, and explore the musical potential of everyday objects. They arrange traditional Polish songs and compose their own pieces based on diverse women's musical traditions. The trio has been nominated twice for the Fryderyk Award in the World Music category and has been nominated multiple times for the Folk Phonogram of the Year. They are also winners of the Nowa Tradycja competition. They have collaborated with bands such as Bastarda, Hańba!, Barbatuques (BR), and El Buho (UK). In 2017, they recorded a session for the iconic KEXP Seattle radio station.

The fifth album by the group Sutari – #kołysankidlaświata (released by Audio Cave) – draws on one of the oldest vocal traditions: lullabies. It is a musical dialogue with contemporary times, filled with the sounds of traditional instruments, polyphonic melodies, and trance rhythms. Just as a parent singing lullabies to their child conveys love, knowledge, and protective spells, the artists weave songs that dispel evil and call for peace. The album features the track Włosy with guest appearances by Iranian artists – poets, actresses, and performers: Tara Fatehi, Sara Ramezani, Sarah Akbari, and Roxana Ghari. The song was inspired by the theme of women's rights violations and the lack of respect for their personal freedoms. The inspiration came from Polish folk wedding songs and the customs present in many cultures of women covering their hair, associated with a change in social status (from maiden to wife, from child to adult), with religious practice, or serving as a tool of oppression.
