Gautier Capuçon - the magic of the cello

NEWS | 14-04-2021
If you follow the concert program of the Philharmonic in Szczecin, you will surely come to the conclusion that we love the cello! It is so indeed, and we are pleased to invite you to another meeting with this extraordinary instrument and the incomparable Gautier Capuçon, who performs with the world's leading orchestras on a daily basis. The recital will take place this Sunday, April 18th at 7:00 p.m. and will be available on LiveFilharmonia.szczecin.pl. The access to the platform costs PLN 10/20.
Was every composer a fan of the cello? Brahms believed that the piano should be a partner in chamber music for this instrument – sometimes leading and sometimes supporting. The Sonata, Op. 38 is related to a funny anecdote. Apparently, during rehearsals with his friend, an amateur musician, Brahms played the piano extremely loudly. In response to his partner's remark that he cannot hear his cello, the composer would say "good for you!"

Dmitri Shostakovich also had a very original experience with the cello. Sonata op. 40 qualifies as an early work by the composer. He wrote it… in the short term of being divorced. An affair with student Yelena in 1934 resulted in breaking their marriage to Nina (although they had an open relationship, the matter had to go beyond the agreed terms), but the couple got married again shortly after. “I'm staying in Leningrad. Nina is pregnant. Married again, ”this message was included in the telegram sent by him to his friend.

The French cellist Gautier Capuçon is recognized worldwide as one of the most charismatic, charming and spontaneous virtuosos playing this instrument. He recently performed with Jérôme Ducros at the Pyotr Tchaikovsky in Moscow, Koerner Hall in Toronto, Wigmore Hall in London and Schloss Elmau in Germany

Program:

Johannes Brahms – Sonata for cello and piano No. 1 op. 38
Dymitr Szostakowicz - Sonata for cello and piano in D minor, Op. 40

The Gautier Capuçon concert will take place on Sunday, April 18th at 7:00 PM at LiveFilharmonia.szczecin.pl. Access to the platform costs PLN 10/20
