Uri Caine and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra – worldclass at the Philharmonic

Even though he took up piano lessons at the age of 7, Uri Caine (born in 1953) didn’t release his first album until his forties. The protege and student of Bernard Peiffer and George Crumb is now considered one of the most unique and original artists to combine classical with jazz, klezmer and electronic music. Caine is famous for his bold interpretations of Mahler, Mozart, Bach and Beethoven.

The Swedish Chamber Orchestra (Svenska Kammarorkestern) was established in 1995 in Örebro. Since 1997 Thomas Dausgaard has been their conductor. He was described by “The Daily Telegraph” as “a conductor with rarely seen awareness and self-confidence”. During their 20-year-long career, the group has released nearly 50 albums with interpretations of classical music. The group is comprised of 38 musicians, one of whom, Nikolaj Znaider is also a conductor.
