Tomáš BraunerChief Conductor and Music Director of the Prague Symphony Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra.

Czech conductor Tomáš Brauner (a prizewinner at the Dimitris Mitropoulos International Conducting Competition in Athens). Chief conductor and artistic director of the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Czech Republic finest orchestra with an almost 100 year of musical tradition.


From 2013 – 2018 he was Chief Conductor of the Pilsen Philharmonic, and from 2014 – 2018 he has been Principal Guest Conductor of the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra in Prague. From 2018 – 2021 held the position Chief conductor of the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra.


Tomas Brauner active as both an orchestra and opera conductor cooperates and leading European symphonic orchestra. His guest appearances have seen him conducting the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Munich Symphony Orchestra, Nürnberger Symphoniker, Slovak Philharmonic, Radio State Orchestra, The Cracow Philharmonic, National Radio Orchestra Romania, PKF Prague Philharmonia, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of Colours Athens, Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Kosice State Philharmonic, Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc, and many more.

Tomáš Brauner began his opera conducting career at the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen.
He has conducted many productions and premieres. Ponchielli’ s La Gioconda, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Tchaikovsky’s Maid of Orleans, Rossini’s Il Turco di Italia, Dvořák's Rusalka and Jacobin, Puccini’s Turandot, Gounod’s Faust, Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur, Jarre’s Hunchback of Notre Dame and many others.

At the Prague State Opera, he debuted conducting Verdi’s Othello. He has since conducted numerous operas including Massenet's Don Quijote, Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, Puccini’s La Bohéme, Tosca, Turandot , Verdi’s Nabucco, La Traviata, Bizet’s Carmen, Mozart’s The Magic Flute, along with a concert performance of Mignon by Ambrois Thomas, and Giselle by Adam.

At the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava, he has conducted Verdi’s Nabucco and Ernani, Puccini’s Il Trittico, Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda, Goundo’s Romeo and Juliet, Thomas’s Hamlet or Janáček’s Kátá Kabanova.

In 2019 he had new productions at the Slovak National Theatre with Hoffman’s Les Comptes de Hoffmann.

Tomas Brauner has appeared as a guest conductor at significant international festivals such as the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch Parten-Kirchen where he has performed Strauss’s An Alpine Symphony with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has also appeared at the Bad Kissingen International Music Festival, Prague Spring International Music Festival, Dvořák Prague International Festival Smetana ́s Litomyšl International Opera Festival, and at the International Music Festival Český Krumlov.

His recording of the complete cello works by Bohuslav Martinů for the Dabringhaus und Grimm label won Classic Prague Awards 2017.

Tomáš Brauner ́s discography including recordings – Karel Husa – Music for Prague (Supraphon), Dvořák ́s Slavonic Rhapsodies (Arco Diva) and for label of Czech Radio Radioservis Complete iano Concertos by Bohuslav Martinů and Thaikovsky ́s Manfred and Fatum.

Tomáš Brauner studied the oboe and conducting at the Prague State Conservatory. He graduated from the Conducting the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with Prof. Radomil Eliška. He continued his conducting studies at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna with Prof. Uroš Lajovič. In 2017 Tomáš Brauner received the Art Prize of the City of Pilsen for outstanding artistic contribution.
