Dive into the depths of the sea silence at the family Econcert

We would like to invite you to the first and last family concert with the participation of the audience this season! Music lovers from the noisy city will go to the most pleasant and picturesque sea. The port, sea legends, fearless sailors and famous captains – all of these will add up to the amazing soundscape of this event.

The concert program includes two Felix Mendelssohn overtures. The first is a souvenir from the composer's expedition to the Scottish coast, where in the Hebrides archipelago he found his way to the mysterious Fingal's Cave, full of colorful rock pillars. The second piece was inspired by two very popular poems by Goethe. In the days before the steamboats, the "calm of the sea" was bad news because it meant that sailing ships could not proceed. The Overture begins with long notes that extend like a vast expanse of stagnant water. In the music, the anthem is heard – a kind of cheerful consent to one's fate on board the ship. Then the wind picks up and the ship goes on its "successful journey", reaching its destination to the sound of a trumpet fanfare.

Of course, we wouldn't be ourselves if we hadn't added an intriguing story to the live orchestral gems! Agata Kolasińska and Rafał Hajdukiewicz and two phenomenal sign language interpreters: Małgorzata Limanówka and Magdalena Sipowicz will take us on a sonic journey on the sea waves.

The event is part of the "I Hear Good Sounds" Festival, which takes place on June 8th-13th, 2021. There are concerts, exhibitions and activities in the city space, through which we want to sensitize you to the problem of noise and teach you how to care for your hearing. The festival is accompanied by unique illumination. During the festival evenings, the illumination of the Philharmonic building will take on turquoise colors. It is the color of deaf people, meaning peace and quiet, a symbol of faith in oneself and other people. The colors of the festival not only refer to the silence for which we fight as part of the I Hear Good Sounds campaign, but also talk about social integration, equality and eliminating barriers between people. For a few days we will be looking at the world through turquoise glasses!
