Film premiere: "SoundLab - between music and chaos"

The first edition of the Laboratory was characterized by a whole range of sounds: from the precursor of the genre Eugeniusz Rudnik, through the unquestionable king of Polish electronics Marek Biliński, to the virtuoso of modern sounds synthesis Richard Devine. It was a meeting with the history of the genre, and also a showcase of the new paths that artists and their electronic music had undertaken. Experimentally, "Foley Room" also took place. What is hidden behind this mysterious name? "Foley Room" is an open recording session during which the sounds, tones and samples generated by everyday objects, broken instruments, and electronic and electrical devices emitting a variety of noises, are recorded.This allowed creation of a unique library of sounds, which in the future could become a source of inspiration and tools for the emergence of experimental musical compositions.

Szymon Karpierz is the author of the film. He is a dj, music producer and radio host, connected with the national heavy electronic music scene. He has made a number of original shows on radio stations such as RadioABC and SzczecinFM. He is also the author of soundtracks for documentary films, computer games and short feature films.

This film is a perfect supplement to the ebook published last year “SoundLab – Talks". It is a collection of interviews with artists connected with the field of electronic music. The heroes are the same artists we will see in the film: Tangerine Dream, Richard Devine, Andrzej Smolik and SBB. Each conversation is a small talk about current phenomena, history and the future and the philosophy of contemporary music. On Saturday evening, right before the screening, the Philharmonic stage will witness a clash between the old and the new on many layers. In one corner the symphony orchestra, the embodiment of long musical traditions, and in the other, musicians representing the world of electronic sounds.
