He is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Poznań, where he completed two majors: conducting under Professor Marcin Sompoliński and violin under Professor Mariusz Derewecki. During his studies, he developed his skills by participating in numerous courses led by such masters as Gabriel Chmura, Jose Miguel Rodilla Tortajada, and Alexander Polishchuck. Particularly valuable was his four-year training at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, where he studied under Gianluigi Gelmetti and was awarded a scholarship and the “Diploma di Merito” three times.
His talent has been recognized internationally at conducting competitions, including the Dimitri Mitropoulos Competition in Athens (2010), the Besançon Competition (2013), and the G. Solti Competition in Frankfurt (2015), where he reached the semi-final stage each time.
In his professional career, Szymon Makowski worked as assistant conductor at the Grand Theatre in Poznań and the Wrocław Opera, where he co-produced Richard Wagner’s Parsifal. He also collaborated with the Collegium F orchestra and assisted Gianluigi Gelmetti in the production of Verdi’s La Traviata in Siena.
As an independent conductor, he has led many renowned orchestras in Poland, including the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice and the philharmonic orchestras of Kraków, Poznań, and Sudecka. He has also successfully worked in musical theatres in Poznań, Lublin, and Gliwice. His international experience includes collaborations with such ensembles as the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Sofia Festival Orchestra.
From 2017 to 2023, he held the position of Conductor of the Lower Silesian Philharmonic in Jelenia Góra.
