Perhaps it is the effect of the unique sound, the gold-shimmering sound, or maybe the mere fact of witnessing extraordinary human virtuosity is enough – whatever it is, witnessing a symphony brass band performing live is an unforgettable experience.
This concert will be a journey. Both in space and time. From the Netherlands and Belgium to Italy and Spain. From the tradition of brass music performed at royal and princely courts in the 18th century, to contemporary works dedicated to masters of brass instruments.
The evening's programme includes both transcriptions of the greatest works of classical music and pieces originally written for symphonic brass orchestra. Most of these compositions are performed extremely rarely in Poland, due to the high artistic and technical requirements the musicians have to deal with.
Such a piece is, among others: the English Folk Song Suite by Ralph Vaughan Williams. It is a three-part work based on nine English folk songs and one of the first pieces originally written for brass bands. Another is Leonesse by Bert Appermont – a majestic concert march that takes the listener to medieval England with its legendary castles and mysterious landscapes. We will also see how the famous Overture to the opera The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart and the most beautiful baroque arias Lascio ch'io pianga by Handel and Caccini's Ave Maria will sound in the interpretation of brass instruments.
