On Friday evening, the Philharmonic in Szczecin will again search for new forms of presentation of classical music inspired by grassroots music. During the concert, the premiere performance of ‘Concerto for traditional violin and orchestra’ by Mateusz Czarnowski, commissioned by the Philharmonic in Szczecin, will take place.
The piece will be based on source material collected during field recordings made in the 1990s, and in particular on the recordings of Eligiusz Sieniawski from the village of Dominikowo (West Pomeranian Region of Poland), a repatriate who arrived in the Western Territories near Drohobycz in the 1940s. The solo part in the concert will be performed by Kacper Malisz - a violinist of the younger generation, a member of the Maliszów Band, though his family traditions are strongly associated with traditional music, while also having a cooperation with the AUKSO Orchestra and the Philharmonic in Kalisz in his music CV.
Celebrating the Year of Stanisław Moniuszko, we will also reach for his rich repertoire, drawing from traditional music. Mateusz Czarnowski will recompose selected works by Moniuszko, while the dance suite created for the needs of the True Musicians Tournament will be kept in the spirit of contemporary orchestral music. The Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra will be accompanied by dancers from Vagabond Physical Collective, who are connected with the contemporary dance scene, while Jacek Hałas, an animator and musician from the circle of traditional music, will watch over the whole event.
