The first part of the evening will include the Overture to Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute and one of the most iconic piano concertos in the entire classical repertoire – Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73, Emperor. The solo part will be performed by the outstanding pianist Kate Liu.
A laureate of the 3rd Prize at the 17th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (2015) and recipient of the Polish Radio Award for Best Performance of Mazurkas, Liu was an undisputed audience favorite during the competition. Since her success in Warsaw, she has performed at some of the most prestigious concert venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and Seoul Arts Center. She is a regular guest at the Chopin and His Europe Festival at the Warsaw Philharmonic. In 2024, she was honored with the Olivier Berggruen Prize at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival. Her recordings are released under the renowned Orchid Classics label.
The second half of the evening will be devoted to one of the greatest symphonies of all time – Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D major Titan. A true milestone in the history of classical music, this monumental work confronts some of humanity’s most profound questions. For Mahler, music was a means of searching for answers to the existential dilemmas that haunted him throughout his life.
The Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra will be conducted on both evenings by Maestro Przemysław Neumann.
