Equilibrium String Quartet

The ensemble brings together four musicians who have for many years performed with leading historically informed performance ensembles in Poland and abroad.

The quartet was founded in 2017 with the aim of exploring lesser-known chamber repertoire from the 18th and 19th centuries. Its work focuses on bringing forgotten works of the period back into circulation, particularly those by Polish composers, in collaboration with musicologists and with consideration for historical performance practices.

Polish chamber music of the Classical and Romantic eras remains relatively little known to the wider public and is still largely absent from both concert and recording repertoire. Equilibrium String Quartet seeks to gradually fill this gap.

The ensemble has recorded five albums, including Elsner: String Quartets Op. 8, featuring a previously unknown version of Elsner’s works dating from 1799, as well as Fantasias, featuring compositions by Lessel, Kurpiński and Noskowski.

The album devoted to the music of Władysław Żeleński, released in 2021, was nominated for a Fryderyk Award. In autumn 2025, the ensemble released its latest album – the first recording on historical instruments of Juliusz Zarębski’s Piano Quintet, issued on vinyl and made in collaboration with pianist Tobias Koch.
