Sul Yoon

Cellist Sul Yoon was born in 1995, South Korea. She gained international attention after winning a prize at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels in 2022. In addition to this, she further distinguished herself on the international stage by winning second prize at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Competition in Berlin and a prize at the Johannes Brahms Competition. In South Korea, she established her musical foundation by winning at top-tier competitions.

Since her debut at the Kumho Young Artist Concert, she has performed with esteemed orchestras such as the Brussels Philharmonic, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Karajan Academy Orchestra, Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic, and the Sinfonie Orchester Biel Solothurn. Her presence on the European stage continues to grow, with upcoming performances in the 2025/26 season including a collaboration with the Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn.

Sul Yoon has been invited to perform at world-class venues, including the Berliner Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Berlin, Flagey and Casals Forum as well as through Seoul Arts Center, KBS Classic FM, The House Concert, and Hermann Art Hall. She has also been a featured artist at numerous prestigious festivals, such as the Kronberg Festival, Brussels Cello Festival, Vocal Art Frankfurt RheinMain, Cello Academy Rutesheim, Allegro Vivo Festival and July festival collaborating with world-renowned musicians.

Notably, in 2021, she was selected as an Academy Scholarship member of the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker. During this period, she performed under the baton of legendary conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, and Gustavo Dudamel, gaining vast orchestral experience. Currently, she is an active member of the Wald Ensemble, a group comprised of musicians from leading European orchestras, showcasing her versatility as both a soloist and an orchestral player.

She is currently pursuing Professional Studies at the Kronberg Academy under Prof. Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt. After graduating Seoul National University, she completed her Master’s degree with the highest honors at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich under Prof. Wen-Sinn Yang. She is now nearing the completion of her Artist Diploma at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar.
