Alexander Gavrylyuk

Alexander GavrylyukAlexander Gavrylyuk has earned international acclaim for his compelling, poetic, and dazzlingly virtuosic interpretations, particularly of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. His performance of the work at the BBC Proms was described by The Times as “a revelation”, while Limelight called it “electrifying.” These outstanding performances, among many others, led to his appointment as Artist in Residence at London’s Wigmore Hall for the 2023/24 season.

Last season, Gavrylyuk made successful debuts with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of Opera North, and I Solisti di Pavia. He also appeared with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Auckland Philharmonia.

Recent highlights have also included performances with the Hamburger Symphoniker, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan. During the current season, he returns for recital appearances at Norway’s Bærum Kulturhus and the Piano Masters Series in Stoke-on-Trent, while making his recital debut at Theater Heerlen in the Netherlands.

Alexander Gavrylyuk regularly collaborates with distinguished conductors including Rafael Payare, Thomas Søndergård, Kirill Karabits, Edward Gardner, Sir Donald Runnicles, Juraj Valčuha, and Gustavo Gimeno.

Born in Ukraine in 1984 and now an Australian citizen, Gavrylyuk began studying the piano at the age of seven and made his orchestral debut just two years later. At the age of thirteen, he moved to Sydney, where he lived until 2006. He is the First Prize and Gold Medal winner of the Vladimir Horowitz International Young Pianists Competition in Kyiv, First Prize winner of the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, and Gold Medal winner of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Tel Aviv.

He has given recitals in many of the world's leading concert halls, including the Musikverein in Vienna, Tonhalle Zurich, Victoria Hall Geneva, London's Southbank Centre (International Piano Series) and Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw (Master Pianists Series), Suntory Hall, Tokyo City Concert Hall and Tokyo Opera City Hall, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Cologne Philharmonie, as well as venues in San Francisco, Sydney Recital Hall, and Melbourne Recital Centre. He is also a frequent guest at major international festivals, including the Hollywood Bowl, Bravo! Vail Music Festival, Mostly Mozart Festival in New York, Klavier-Festival Ruhr, Kissinger Sommer, and the International Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój. He currently serves as Artist in Residence at the Chautauqua Institution in New York State.
