Mario Bruno

Mario Bruno (born in 1997) began studying the flute with Antonio Amenduni at the Conservatorio di Musica Umberto Giordano in Foggia, graduating in 2015 with highest honors and special distinction. He continued his studies with Michele Marasco at the Accademia Italiana del Flauto, before earning his Master's degree summa cum laude in 2020 under Davide Formisano at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart. He subsequently completed postgraduate studies with Andrea Lieberknecht at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.

An award-winning musician from an early age, Mario Bruno has won first prizes in numerous prestigious international competitions. In 2022, he received First Prize (with no Second Prize awarded) and the Special Prize for the best performance of a contemporary work at the 10th Kobe International Flute Competition. In the same year, he was awarded Second Prize at the 71st ARD International Music Competition in Munich. In 2023, he won Second Prize at the 77th Geneva International Music Competition, where he also received the Audience Prize, Young Audience Prize, Students' Prize (awarded by the Faculty of Music and the Department of Musicology of the University of Geneva), the Rose-Marie Huguenin Prize, and the Orchestra Prize presented by the musicians of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

As a soloist, Mario Bruno has performed throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas, and is regularly invited to major international festivals as a performer, masterclass teacher, and competition juror. He has collaborated with renowned ensembles and orchestras including the SWR Symphonieorchester, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Bach Collegium München, and Münchener Kammerorchester. As a soloist, he has performed under conductors such as Patrick Gallois, Adam Hickox, and Francesco Angelico.

His artistic development has also been shaped by masterclasses with internationally renowned flautists, including Peter-Lukas Graf, Felix Renggli, Andrea Oliva, Silvia Careddu Jacot, Patrick Gallois (at the Accademia Chigiana), Marcello Gatti Taballione, and Karl Kaiser Fuss (Baroque flute), among others.

Since August 2021, Mario Bruno has served as Principal Flute of the Staatsorchester Kassel.
