Agata Schmidt

Mezzo-soprano Agata Schmidt graduated with distinction from the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, where she studied with Professor Hanna Michalak. She is the recipient of Second Prize at the Grand Prix de l'Opera International Competition in Bucharest (2015) and the Prize for the Best Performance of Polish Songs at the Stanisław Moniuszko International Vocal Competition in Warsaw (2016).

From 2011 to 2014, she was a member of the Atelier Lyrique of the Paris Opera. She made her debut at the Opéra Garnier in the title role of Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice in Pina Bausch's celebrated production. Her performance earned her two prestigious distinctions: the Prix de l'AROP and the Prix Carpeaux for Best Young Singer of 2014.

She was also a participant in the Opera Academy of the Polish National Opera, where she worked under the guidance of Anita Garanča. In 2018, she returned to the Palais Garnier to reprise the role of Orfeo.

Her French stage debuts also include the Dryad in Ariadne auf Naxos and the Third Nymph in Rusalka at the Opéra Bastille, the title role in Orfeo ed Euridice at Opéra National de Bordeaux, the title role in The Rape of Lucretia and the staged production of Dvořák's Stabat Mater at Opéra national de Montpellier. She has also appeared as the Dryad at Opéra de Limoges, Marta and Pantalis in Mefistofele, and Maddalena in Rigoletto at Opéra de Lyon.

In 2016, she made her debut at the Polish National Opera as the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, later returning to perform the role of Suzuki in Madama Butterfly.

In the 2021/22 season, she created the title role in the world premiere of Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa's opera Wanda.

As a concert artist, she has performed chamber and oratorio repertoire at venues including the Palais Garnier, Auditorium Maison de la Radio, the Warsaw Philharmonic, the National Forum of Music in Wrocław, the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio, the Amphithéâtre de l'Opéra Bastille, Notre-Dame de Paris, and St Martin-in-the-Fields in London. She has also appeared at major European festivals, including Aix-en-Provence, Verbier, and Aldeburgh.
