Weronika Rabek
Born in Gdańsk, mezzo-soprano Weronika Rabek has been a soloist with the Magdeburg Opera since 2022. Her repertoire there includes Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen, Rosina in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, Romeo in Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Olga in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Hänsel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, as well as Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Dorabella in Così fan tutte.
She is the recipient of Second Prize at the Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Competition (2023), was a finalist of the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang in Berlin (2022), and received the Special Prize at the Paula Salomon-Lindberg Das Lied Competition in Berlin (2019). From 2019 to 2022 she was a member of the International Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Hannover, where she performed roles including the Third Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Flora in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, and Mercédès in Bizet’s Carmen. She also appeared in the German premiere of the contemporary opera Denis & Katya by Philip Venables and Ted Huffman.
Oratorio repertoire plays a central role in her artistic activity. She performs alto and mezzo-soprano parts in works including Mozart’s Mass in C minor and Requiem, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, St John Passion, and St Matthew Passion, Handel’s Belshazzar, as well as Stabat Mater by Vivaldi and Dvořák. She has collaborated with ensembles including Sinfonia Varsovia, AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy, Cappella Cracoviensis, and La Festa Musicale.
She is also an accomplished recital artist. In Warsaw she has appeared at the Concert of the Best Graduates in the Chamber Hall of the National Philharmonic, the Witold Lutosławski Festival Chain XVI, and the festival Three-Four. Weronika Rabek completed her bachelor's degree in vocal studies at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, earned a master's degree in early music under Professor Jadwiga Rappé at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, and completed a second master's degree in opera singing at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover under Professor Marek Rzepka.
