Jeremias Fliedl
Jeremias Fliedl is one of Austria’s leading cellists. He has appeared at many of Europe’s most prestigious festivals and concert halls, including the Salzburg Festival, Mozart Week Salzburg, Schubertiade Hohenems, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, Carinthian Summer, Südtirol Festival Merano, Festival Ljubljana, CLASSIX Kempten, Musiktage Mondsee, Vevey Spring Classic Festival, International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht, Grachtenfestival Amsterdam, Viotti Festival, Lake District Summer Music Festival, Salzkammergut Festwochen Gmunden, Festival Sankt Gallen, the Vienna Musikverein, Vienna Konzerthaus, BOZAR Brussels, Konzerthaus Dortmund, the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle Hamburg.As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras including the Orchestre National de Lyon, Brussels Philharmonic, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, Bremen Philharmonic, Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra della Toscana, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Danish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Salzburg Orchestra Soloists, Zagreb Soloists, Zagreb Chamber Orchestra, Beethoven Philharmonie, Matrix Orchestra, Changsha Symphony Orchestra, Carinthian Symphony Orchestra, Austrian-Korean Philharmonic Orchestra, Olsztyn Philharmonic Orchestra and Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra.
He has collaborated with conductors such as Stéphane Denève, Ádám Fischer, Thomas Guggeis, Martin Haselböck, Thomas Sanderling, Case Scaglione and Emmanuel Tjeknavorian. During the 2026/27 season, he will appear with Dainius Pavilionis and the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, as well as with Reto Bieri and the Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim.
His chamber music partners include Petrit Çeku, Veronika Eberle, Karen Gomyo, Ariane Haering, Ziyu He, Gerold Huber, Maximilian Kromer, Matthew Lipman, Gerhard Marschner, Callum McLachlan, Nikola Meeuwsen, Nils Mönkemeyer, Daniel Müller-Schott, Benedict Mitterbauer, Julian Rachlin, Timothy Ridout, Linus Roth, Benjamin Schmid, the Simply Quartet, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, Kiron Atom Tellian, Dimitry Udovichenko and Dominik Wagner.
In 2024, he released his debut album TRANSFORMATION on the Berlin Classics label, recorded with the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn under Emmanuel Tjeknavorian. The recording received outstanding reviews, being described as “a sumptuous feast of cello timbres” (BBC Music Magazine), “brilliant” (Die Presse), “technically brilliant and with astonishing musical maturity” (Concerti), “captivating” (Salzburger Nachrichten) and praised for its “soulful expression” and “marvellous legato” (Klassik Heute).
Born in Klagenfurt in 1999, Jeremias Fliedl began his studies with Igor Mitrovic before becoming the last student of Heinrich Schiff at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He completed his bachelor's degree with Clemens Hagen at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and his master's degree with Julian Steckel at the University of Music and Theatre Munich. He also received important artistic guidance from Daniel Müller-Schott and Michael Sanderling.
He is a prizewinner of the Liezen Competition, the Svirél Competition and the Antonio Janigro Competition, and became the first Austrian cellist to receive a prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition.
Since 2022, Jeremias Fliedl has performed on the ex Gendron, Lord Speyer, a cello crafted by Antonio Stradivari in 1693 and generously placed at his disposal through a private loan.
