Dainius Pavilionis

Dainius Pavilionis was born in 1977 in Marijampolė, Lithuania, into a family with a rich musical tradition. He graduated from music school as a piano student and was a prizewinner at numerous competitions. In 1992, he began his studies at the J. Gruodis Conservatory in Kaunas, specialising in choral conducting. From 1996, he continued his studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music in the class of Prof. Povilas Gylys, and from 2002 he studied opera and symphonic conducting with Prof. Juozas Domarkas, whom he regards as his mentor and musical father.

After graduating in 2006, he joined the faculty of his alma mater, and in 2017 became Head of the Conducting Department. He is currently a professor. Since 2006, he has served as conductor of the Representative Orchestra of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

The musical community quickly recognised Dainius Pavilionis as an outstanding conductor. He regularly collaborates with, among others, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and the State Symphony Orchestra of Vilnius. From 2010 to 2015, he was Artistic Director and Conductor of the State Music Theatre in Klaipėda, where he prepared numerous new productions. Since 2025, he has been conductor of the Kaunas Symphony Orchestra.

He has received numerous awards, including at the 4th International Witold Lutosławski Competition for Young Conductors in Białystok in 2006 and at the 8th International Grzegorz Fitelberg Competition for Conductors in Katowice in 2007.

Dainius Pavilionis conducts symphony orchestras not only in Lithuania and Poland, but is also regularly invited to conduct concerts across Europe. Since 1 September 2020, he has served as Deputy Artistic Director of the Toruń Symphony Orchestra.
