Piotr Mazurek

Piotr Mazurek is the Music Director of the Silesian Opera. He is a graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where he studied cello with Professor Tomasz Strahl and symphonic and operatic conducting with Professor Monika Wolińska. From the very beginning of his academic education, he was fascinated by the orchestral medium, which strongly shaped his artistic development and led him to prioritise activities related to ensemble performance.

Throughout his professional career, Piotr Mazurek has served as principal cello of the Warsaw Chamber Opera and, from 2010, as deputy principal cello of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra.

After completing his conducting studies, he entered the world of opera in the 2022/2023 season as Assistant Conductor at the Wrocław Opera. As part of this collaboration, he conducted revivals of works including La Cenerentola by Gioachino Rossini and Don Juan by Christoph Willibald Gluck.

In the following season, he advanced to the position of Orchestra Manager at the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk, allowing him to further expand his operatic and ballet repertoire and collaborate with outstanding artists. In December 2023, he conducted his first ballet premiere at the theatre, The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns. He also worked on revivals of productions including Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi, Thaïs by Jules Massenet, Coppélia by Léo Delibes and La clemenza di Tito by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

In the 2023/2024 season, he also began collaborating with the Silesian Opera, where he took on the musical direction of productions including The Pearl Fishers by Georges Bizet, Spartacus by Aram Khachaturian, the anniversary production of Halka by Stanisław Moniuszko, Le Corsaire by Adolphe Adam and King Roger by Karol Szymanowski.

Beyond opera ensembles, he has collaborated with such symphony orchestras as the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, the Jerzy Semkow Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra, the Gorzów Philharmonic, the Zielona Góra Philharmonic and the Opole Philharmonic.
