The phenomenal international group Scandinavian Art Ensemble, brought together by the late Tomasz Stańko, will present music from the album The Copenhagen Session.
Everything about this project is jazz through and through – from its origins and history to the music itself. It all began with workshops at Vallekilde Højskole in Denmark, led by Tomasz Stańko, the unforgettable world-renowned jazz trumpeter. A strong musical chemistry quickly developed between the participants and their mentor, leading to a series of recording sessions in 2016. For several years, however, the music recorded during those sessions existed only as a rumour within jazz circles in Poland and Scandinavia.
That changed in 2025, when the two-part album The Copenhagen Session was finally released. The ensemble brings together musicians from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Poland. Under Tomasz Stańko's guidance, Scandinavian Art Ensemble combined the melancholic depth of Polish jazz with the atmospheric qualities of the Scandinavian sound. Despite the differences in age, experience, and Stańko's legendary status, everyone participated in the project on equal terms. As trumpeter Tomasz Dąbrowski recalls, Stańko was not only a mentor but also an active participant, driven by curiosity and a constant desire to push boundaries.
We invite you to a true jazz feast featuring all the available participants of this legendary project, and we warmly encourage you to explore The Copenhagen Session recordings themselves.
